The New River Fishing and Facts
The New River in West Virginia is a lovely, ancient waterway offering a premier fishing experience. As one of the oldest rivers on the continent, it carves through the breathtaking New River Gorge, creating a stunning landscape and a world-class fishery. This legendary river is famous for its robust populations of hard-fighting smallmouth bass, making it a top destination for serious anglers. Beyond bass fishing, you can catch trophy-sized walleye and other species. Our float fishing trips take us to remote sections where deep pools hold abundant fish. The gorge’s beauty and exceptional fishing create a special adventure.
What Should You Expect From an Overnight Fishing Trip?
Our overnight fishing trips are a complete outdoor experience. Your adventure begins when you meet your expert fishing guide, who outfits you for the journey. You’ll spend your days float fishing from our specialized rafts, which provide a stable platform for casting. Your guide is a river master with deep knowledge of its currents and where fish hide. They will help with fly-fishing techniques to land that trophy smallmouth bass. As evening descends, we make our way to a secluded riverside campsite. We set up spacious tents, prepared meals, and shared stories under the stars.
What to Bring on an Overnight Fishing Trip
We provide rafts, tents, meals, and snacks. But you should bring some personal items and your favorite fishing equipment:
- Rods and reels. A 6- or 7-weight fly rod or a medium-action spinning rod and reel combo work well. Bring what you’re comfortable using.
- Tackle and flies. Your guide has suggestions, but bring your favorite lures and flies. Poppers and streamers are effective for bass.
- Fishing license. All anglers need a valid West Virginia fishing license.
- Fishing gear. Pack weather-appropriate clothing, a rain suit, sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen. A sleeping bag is also necessary.
